Knuckle At The Knees

SXSW looks a little different when you stand a little over five feet tall. The experience nevertheless proved to be a good one between the VIP lounge at The Lodge and four fun-filled days of bands across 6th street at Peckerheads.

Among some of my unbelievable encounters included Johnny Siera of The Death Set.

This electronic punk piece began as a duo with Gold Coast, Australia natives Siera and the late Beau Velasco (1978-2009). Together, they shared vocal, guitar, and  production chops. The latter now has a song dedicated to him on the group’s second LP release Michel Poiccard:

I Miss You Beau Velasco– The Death Set

The album features collaborations with Diplo and Spankrock.

FREE Ryan Biornstad

STRFKR’s Ryan Biornstad was arrested later that night March 18th, forcing the band to cancel two scheduled shows.

Reportedly the official charges are “standing in the street” and “resisting arrest.” The band has caught the incident on film and claims that it proves there was no resistance to arrest. People reporting on the situation are blaming the policeman for being overly stressed and acting “agro.”– onethirtybpm

Fans were relieved to hear that he was released after just one night in the Slammer.

The Sandwitches

Grace Cooper & Heidi Alexander of The Sandwitches turned out their mix of Americana and 60s garage at the My Old Kentucky Blog Frunk as Duck Party March 16th. Their new album Mrs. Jones’ Cookies on Empty Cellar Records will be released March 29th featuring single “Joe Says”.

As everyone knows, Broken Bells consist of James Mercer of The Shins and Danger Mouse (producer of the infamous Beatles/Jay Z mash up The Grey Album).

I saw The Shins many years ago at The Backyard in Austin, Texas. The Rapture opened up for them, followed by Shiny Toy Guns. It was an MTV college tour. I have to say the band I’m missing most out of that trio is The Rapture. Pink Bullets is a great song though.

Around the same time I saw The Shins I was heavily banging Danger Mouse’s The Grey Album out of my college apartment stereo system. Every song on that album was new and refreshing yet familiar.

Rhapsody.com got a chance to sit down with the two to discuss their favorite album of all time. I just wonder if they agreed on this before hand, or James was just like “Whatever Mouse. Zombies, sure…”

Beats Antique played The Rumbler Lounge Saturday for Rhapsody.com’s party. NPR’s All Songs Considered stopped by and got some great (and at sometimes odd) footage of their performance. Check out both videos from the show and read the full recap here.

J. Cole put on one of my favorite performances at The Rumbler Lounge during The Grand Ole Party Thursday March 18. Fake Shore Drive was on site  to grab a few words from RocNation’s newest star. Check out the video below to see what everyone’s talking about.

This guy is gonna be huge.

So (I think) we have officially finally recovered from last week. Although I am currently fighting a cold, allergies, and the urge to drink and smoke all day, I feel about back to where I was. In February of last year.

That being said we want thank everyone who came out to The Rumbler Lounge March 17 – 20. We had 48 acts play two stages over four days, with over 5,000 fine folks in attendance. You make the party happen people.
