For anyone not familiar, Salt N’ Pepa changed the face of hip hop forever and gave females a voice in the music industry, hip hop community, and inspired women/men/children across the world in countless ways as strong positive role models. From my own personal experience, I received my first Salt N’ Pepa Very Necessary tape when I was 9 – yes TAPE – and listened to it everyday, all day, for months / years. I loved how they completely dominated the tracks. Their message was intellectual and sexual, but not in a ‘let me give it to you’ way but more in a ‘I’m gonna take it’ way.  They said all the things a male MC would and more. It was empowering then and still is today. It changed me down to my inner core and made me who I am. With that said, we could not be more excited to have KR fam, incredible duo, GOD-DES & SHE opening for the group with my favorite hip hop DJ KID SLYCE on the one and twos. Knuckle Rumbler is keeping the summer hot with a Wet Hot American Party June 17 at the ND with Maluca (Mad Decent), DJ Orion, and Dubbel Dutch (Palms Out Sounds)!

Born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan by Dominican parents, Maluca is that increasingly rare bird- a downtown girl who brings together the classic cool, glamour, grit and passion of New York City in an instant! After meeting Diplo at a karaoke bar, the two starting working together resulting in her debut single “El Tigeraso” (coming via Mad Decent), an infectious track that draws on her Dominican electro merengue roots.

MALUCA had her first public performance at the SXSW FADER fort and tore the roof off with a short set that showcased her wide range of influences – from artists such as ESG, Savannah Band, Wu-Tang, Gil Scott Heron, Nina Simone to styles like Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, House, Disco, and Freestyle. Keep your eyes open and platanos peeled for the self-proclaimed “1/2 Dominican 1/2 Pain in the ass”.

Austin’s hardest working DJ, DJ Orion will be opening up the night along with Palms Out Sounds’ own Dubbel Dutch.

The Black and White Years have the recipe for a good time. Since they formed as a band in 2007, they’ve had the opportunity to provide their jams at festivals such as CMJ Music Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest,  Austin City Limits, MIDEM, O2 Wireless Festival. The band’s song, “Power to Change,” has received a fair amount of national attention via modern rock and college stations. The band is currently recording their next full length album due out this year.
