Video: The Decemberists – Calamity Song

So I have a soft-spot in my heart for The Decemberists. I took notice when I first heard Picaresque several years ago. But their newest album, The King is Dead, has much significance for me because it always brings back memories of a recent trip I made to New York City where I got to see The Decemberists kick off their tour for the latest album at the beautiful Beacon Theatre.The concert was amazing because of the band’s flawless performance and lead singer Colin Meloy’s wit and charm winning over the audience. I was fortunate enough attend the recent ACL-Live taping of The Decemberists. They performed most songs off of their latest album which included the tune ‘Calamity Song’. The talented ensemble, along with Parks and Recreation co-creator Michael Schur, released the visuals to the latest single from The King is Dead. If you’re a well-read little hipster, you know that the video is inspired by the epic by David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest. I mean, I haven’t read Infinite Jest (should I be ashamed?) but according to a lot of my friends who have, it is a pretty good representation of a particular scene in the book. Whether you’ve read the book or not, you will definitely enjoy this well-made video that feature the easy to love indie darlings, The Decemberists.
